Bertrand is an editor for Arbutus, an editorial intern for the Indiana Alumni Magazine, a columnist for the Indiana Daily Student (IDS), and an editorial assistant at INside magazine.
Born in Upland, Indiana, but raised in Singapore, Bertrand is now back in the U.S. and is currently a junior majoring in journalism and minoring in International Studies and history at Indiana University Bloomington.
As a national serviceman in the Singapore Armed Forces, Bertrand got his first taste in journalism while writing for his camp’s newsletter, Victory Chronicles. This led to his subsequent stint as a writer at a Singapore-based integrated communications firm, HGAsia, where he wrote for a myriad of publications including: East Coast Town Council news, HYPE, Inform, and Keynote magazine.
In his freshman year at IU, Bertrand got involved with the IDS as a beat reporter for humanitarian events and covered news ranging from the fundraising for the Sichuan earthquake victims, to the Obama campaign in Indiana. Over the summer, he interned at the National Arts Council (Singapore) as a marketing/publication intern to promote and prepare for the Singapore Biennale 2008, a large scale art exhibition featuring 137 artworks from 66 artists from all over the world.
Bertrand is presently relishing his time at the IU alumni association and is looking forward to spring break in Chicago.
